Siri Overhaul

Apple released iOS 27 on Tuesday, delivering the long-delayed Siri overhaul alongside new updates for the Watch, iPad and Vision Pro.

The redesigned Siri runs in beta. It works in English only for now. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support arrives in October, Apple told The Verge. The new Siri draws on personal context, app actions and onscreen awareness to complete tasks, and it gets a dedicated app that syncs conversations across devices through iCloud, according to MacRumors.

Full AI features require newer hardware. MacRumors reported the tools work only on iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max and all iPhone 16, 17 and 18 models, plus M-series iPads and the A17 Pro iPad mini. Owners of the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro or later get an added perk. A more natural-sounding Siri voice, built on on-device models, per MacRumors.

A Liquid Glass opacity slider also ships with iOS 27, for a clearer or frostier interface, plus redesigned app icons and extra-large widgets, The Verge reported. watchOS 27 adds new Workout Buddy features, a tap gesture for the Smart Stack, and a consolidated Find My app, per The Verge. There's a Siri-focused watch face too, called Siri Modular, MacRumors reported.

Twenty-six models deep, the update reaches back to iPhone 11 and the second-generation iPhone SE, and to Apple Watch Series 9, SE 3 and Ultra 2 and later, The Verge said. iPadOS 27 supports the fourth-generation iPad Pro and later, the fourth-generation iPad Air and later, the sixth-generation iPad mini, and the ninth-generation base iPad, according to the same report.

Apple didn't stop there. The company also shipped iOS 26.7, a security-only update for iPhone owners who aren't ready to move to iOS 27, MacRumors reported. New AirPods firmware, build 9A348, adds a redesigned AirPods interface, an Adaptive mode slider and custom EQ support for the AirPods Pro 2, Pro 3, AirPods 4 and AirPods Max 2, per MacRumors.

No charge yet for the new Siri or other Apple Intelligence features. MacRumors reported Apple may start billing for heavier use later on.

visionOS 27 carries the same Siri overhaul to the Vision Pro. It adds eye-based notification previews and support for turning personal panoramas into immersive scenes, The Verge reported.
