NFL offenses erupted in Week 1. Fast and loud from the first snap. The weekend delivered some of the highest scoring in league history.

Chicago beat Carolina 59-37, falling three points short of Atlanta's 53-year-old record for points in a Week 1 game, the Associated Press reported. The game produced 1,030 total yards and 96 combined points, the most ever in a season opener, according to ABC News.

Quarterbacks looked sharp with little preseason tuning. Thirteen passers posted a rating over 100, and ten teams scored more than 30 points, with six of those leading by at least 24 at halftime, ABC News reported. Seventeen teams opened the season with new offensive play callers, according to USA Today. None slowed down by Sunday night.

In Houston, Josh Allen threw for 334 yards, and the Buffalo Bills scored on eight of their 11 possessions to beat the Texans 36-31, ABC News reported. Last season, Houston allowed the second-fewest points and the fewest yards in the league, in coach Joe Brady's debut on the other sideline.

Results piled up fast elsewhere. Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry led Baltimore past Indianapolis 41-23, handing new coach Jesse Minter his first win, ABC News reported. Indianapolis has now lost eight straight games after starting last season 8-2. Daniel Jones struggled in his first game back from a torn Achilles.

Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo powered the Giants past Dallas 28-20 in New York's first game under a new coaching staff, controlling the ball for almost 37 minutes and keeping Dak Prescott off the field for long stretches, according to ABC News. Ravens coach John Harbaugh had the better outcome of the two Harbaugh brothers coaching in Week 1, ABC News reported. His brother Jim's Chargers fell 26-14 to Jacoby Brissett and an Arizona team that entered as a 9 1/2-point underdog.

Cincinnati leaned on an overhauled defense in a 33-27 win. New starters Dexter Lawrence and Jonathan Allen harassed quarterback Baker Mayfield all game, ABC News reported.

Teams had combined for 750 points entering Monday night's game between Denver and Kansas City, ABC News reported. The record for a Week 1 total is 791 points, set in 2012.

Bears coach Ben Johnson has set a team goal of breaking the NFL record for points in a season, ABC News reported. Chicago scored touchdowns on its final four drives against Carolina. Still, Johnson wasn't satisfied.

"There's still a number of things on there that I didn't love just from the sideline perspective," Johnson said.
