Refinery Strikes

Fire tore through the Ryazan refinery, roughly 180 miles southeast of Moscow, early Thursday after a drone strike, NPR reported. Russia's Defense Ministry said it shot down four missiles and dozens of drones, and that falling debris caused the blaze, the BBC reported. Ukraine had resumed the attacks after a three-day pause. Putin said Ukraine also hit refineries the day before, without causing major damage. Zelenskyy saw no reward in holding back.

"We're done," Zelenskyy told the Financial Times, in an interview published Thursday and cited by NBC News and NPR. He had halted strikes for three days while Russia kept hitting Ukraine's power grid.

The United States, Zelenskyy said, had pulled back intelligence-sharing on Russian missile launches and slowed Ukraine's access to Starlink terminals, NBC News reported. He called the moves pressure tactics aimed at Kyiv. A Ukrainian defense official told the BBC that some Starlink functionality had been restored, though full speeds remained unclear. Musk posted that decisions on the military version of Starlink rest with the Pentagon and President Trump.

"A disgrace." That's how Trump described the renewed strikes, in an interview with Newsmax cited by the Guardian. He said they were pushing up world oil prices. Zelenskyy, in his view, is "more difficult to deal with than Putin." The comments followed Trump's move to ease sanctions on Russian diesel exports, a deal Zelenskyy said would let Moscow keep fighting, according to the Guardian and NPR.

Betrayed. That's how Zelenskyy described feeling about Trump, in a separate interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, citing the diesel deal, the ceasefire announcement and the Starlink disruption, NPR reported. "We are losing a strong partner," he said. Ukraine was "OK," he added, with Trump staying neutral between Kyiv and Moscow.

Three people died Thursday. Six were hurt. Russian drones struck Ukraine's Kirovohrad region in an assault that lasted more than 10 hours, Ukraine's Emergency Services said, according to NPR.

Zelenskyy met NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in Brussels Thursday, as a two-day summit of European leaders opened, the BBC reported. Von der Leyen said the bloc would pursue a 22nd round of sanctions on Russia, the Guardian reported.

Guido Crosetto, Italy's defense minister, told the BBC that cutting intelligence to Kyiv "would be a complete mistake," since it means "denying a country any chance of defending itself."
